In the hustle and bustle of life we tend to neglect a very important person, ourselves.  We often don’t give our bodies the sleep, nutrients, or other important things that it needs.  I noticed this big time when I was just wiped out, and had zero energy.  So I decided to make a change and treat my body better.
Our bodies do so much for us we need to thank them by giving back a little bit.  So to do that I decided to make a few changes in my daily routine.  My first change is drinking more water.
We often neglect how much water we really should be taking in.  I started carrying my bottle with me everywhere and making it my daily mission to drink more.  I aim for one gallon a day.  I feel so much better.  No more bloating, or sluggish afternoons.  My body is loving it.
The next change I decided to make was to start doing yoga during the day.  Sometimes I do it in the morning, sometimes in the evening but I try to get it in everyday.  I found that I feel more limber, less sore, and my mind is clearer.

My final change I am still working on, I am trying to remove processed foods out of our diets.  I follow the 80/20 rule.  Eighty percent of the time good food goes in, twenty percent of the time I can cheat a little.  This had been huge for us.
What do you find makes your body feel better?  Let me know in the comments!

Homemade Soy Candles

I love candles, they make our house smell so good and the ambiance they provide is wonderful.  One thing I don’t like about a lot of store bought candles is that they are not clean burning.  I wanted to have candles in my home to provide that same light and smell but without emitting harmful chemicals in the air.  So I decided to create my own candles.

All you need is:
Soy flakes – I got mine at Hobby Lobby
Wicks -Hobby Lobby again
A jar – I reused a pasta sauce jarEssential oils

Pour soy flakes into microwavable measuring cup, place in microwave for 30 seconds.  Remove and stir, do this several times until flakes are melted entirely.

Dip the bottom of the wick in the melted wax.  Sick on the bottom of the jar, wait about 1 minute until wax drys. Hold wick with one hand and pour melted wax into jar.  Add 15 drops of essential oil,  for this candle I did lavender. My next one I am going to do eucalyptus.

This is what the soy flakes should look like after they are all melted.

I love my candle so much.  Leave me a comment and tell me if you have made your own candles or suggestions of essencial oils to try out!

No Spend Week

As you know I love to save money, it is one of my favorite things!  I make my own laundry detergent in the name of saving money! I while back I heard a friend telling how her and her husband will have a time every few months where they do not spend money during the work week, Monday through Friday.  She was telling about how much they really caught themselves spending needlessly.

When I heard the idea I thought that we keep good tabs on our finances and we don’t spend that much.  Then I really got to looking at our bank statement and realized we make a lot of purchases each week.

I decided to change that idea and run wild with it.  That is how “No Spend Week” got started.  For one week we spend no money, we don’t go grocery shopping, we don’t go out, we don’t even use gift cards.  It is a spend free week.

We have to stretch our pantry staples and what ever we have in cans, fridge, or freezer to eat that week.  It can be a lot of fun to see how much you can stretch what you have.  It can also be fun to do without, but it is all about that attitude you go into it with.

In our house the only exceptions to No Spend Week are:
1. Bills
2. Church offering
3. Food for our pets

You may be suprised how much you really do spend in a week and how much you save trying our No Spend Week.

I would love to hear in the comment section how you and your family save money!

Happy saving!
